This
spacious stone building, in the Decorated Gothic style, consists of a
lofty and well-proportioned nave, with a superbly constructed jarrah
roof, transepts, chancel and side chapels. |
| Special fittings |
A
lofty wrought iron screen, made by W Priestner of Subiaco, spans the
chancel arch and another iron screen surrounds the baptistery.
There
are some fine fittings including the stone pulpit and font, brass
lectern, carved jarrah high altar and stone reredos incorporating three
opus sectile mosaic panels. The stained glass windows are of
outstanding quality, including the work of Franz Mayer & Co, Munich
(east window) and A L Moore & Co, London (seven lancet windows at
the west end depicting the seven acts of mercy) |

Rebuilt and enlarged in 1961 by Paul F. Hufner retaining original pipework.

1970's by F.J. Larner & Co. Swell octave to pedal and Swell Bourdon

Rebuilt and enlarged in 1990 by Bellsham Pipe Organs
(Australia). Clifton Great and Pedal pipework was reinstated
and returned the original chests. The Swell chest had been
destroyed in an arson attack on the Hufner workshop and his electric
chest was retained for this division. The Great organ was
reinstated on the original Clifton chest as it was in 1884. The
Hill pipework was retained on the Swell with some of the Hufner work to
make a comprehensive Swell Organ. The Pedal stops were also
reused with the addition of some duplexing from the manuals. The
Choir Organ was added to the organ during this rebuild using extension
to a large degree. A new case, loosely based on the original and
a new console were provided. Unfortunately the Bellsham company
was unable to complete the work and it was taken over and finished by
Pipe Organ Builders and Services in 1996 to 3 manuals, 36
stops, 11 couplers, electro-magnetic action to slider chests.
